Product description

PRINCIPE DE LOS APÓSTOLES GIN "FUERZA GAUCHA" - 53% - 0.70L - ARGENTINA

The "Fuerza Gaucha", or "Gaucho strength" based on the "Navy strength" known from the British tradition. Previously only available in a limited edition, this is the identical distillate as the regular Apóstoles Gin, just less diluted. It is really exciting that - although the character of the gin is of course completely preserved and recognizable - the balance of the aromas shifts a bit. The slightly resinous, woody note of juniper comes to the fore a little more, but without the freshness of eucalyptus and peperina or the herbal note of mate leaves disappearing.

Aroma
The Príncipe de los Apóstoles Mate Gin Fuerza Gaucha shows the very characteristic eucalyptus note that made the Príncipe de los Apóstoles Mate Gin so unique, but I also find a finer note that reminds me of white water mint. Behind this there are spicy mate notes, surprising nuances of milk chocolate (I have to think a little of "After Eight" chocolate), juniper, some roasted coffee and again a hint of grapefruit. The associations of chocolate and coffee in particular were completely unexpected for me.

Taste
Eucalyptus is also the main protagonist on the palate, the mint is more reminiscent of peppermint than water mint, but the chocolate tones are hardly present. However, there are sweet nuances of cream desserts, juniper, again some mate (albeit very subtle, nobody who doesn't like mate tea has to avoid this gin) and grapefruit. The higher alcohol content is not disturbing or spicy at all, I also like this variant very much!

Finish: surprisingly bitter and rather dry with eucalyptus; flavorful and long-lasting.

Príncipe de los Apóstoles Mate Gin is the creation of Argentina's most famous mixologist, Renato "Tato" Giovannoni, owner and head barman of the Florería Atlantico bar in Buenos Aires, which is regularly confirmed as the best bar in Latin America and among the 50 best bars in the world by Drinks International expert jury is elected. A few years ago, he realized his lifelong dream with the gin and created a homage to the most Argentinian of all drinks - the mate tea.
The Príncipe de los Apóstoles Mate Gin is made by distilling individually macerated solutions with juniper berries, fresh mate leaves, eucalyptus, peperina (a plant endemic only to Argentina that is aromatically reminiscent of mint), coriander seeds and the peel of pink grapefruit in one small (200l) copper still in the Argentinian highlands.
